LOVE IN ORVIETO 2022
VASCELLARI ORVIETO PRIVILEGES
EMOTIONAL CITY GUIDE
FROM DAWN TO DUSK
INSIDE THE NIGHT
BETWEEN COLORS AND RESTLESS SOULS
About the centenary of the Art of Vascellari, one of the first italian experiments of organized ceramic production.
Stories of the orvietan ceramic tradition, of its ancient roots, of the boldly modern graphic, between symbolism and daily life, ingenious intuitions, taste for experimentation, rigorousness, and tolerance.
Such as the deep soul of the city, where finding the original creations of Ilario Ciaurro and Angelina Suadoni, that of the Art of Vascellari have been form and substance, wise innovation and skilful irriverence, is more than a hypothesis and a chance.
Crossing Via del Duomo stop at bottega ... it's right there, next to
"and at the end of the street a miracle, the Duomo" ... this is by Gabriele D'Annunzio.
A city where in the evening you will have, whoever you are, the privilege of crossing the piazza protected by the great church that the sunset dresses in gold.
Leave the Duomo behind you, take Via Maitani, do it in summer at dinner time, in the warm air.
You are in San Francesco, the great church of the city before the Duomo, and also the church that belongs to me the most... but this is another story, that has to do with the name of the father, the school of the mother, the fatigue and the teness of childhood.
Sleep in the center, look for a nice window rather than a nice room.
Wake up at dawn, you will find the city in pink, the most sincere one, empty of confusion and full of hope.
Look for the first open bar, following the smell of cream and coffee you will meet the most unquiet animes, those who in the crowd of the day, having nothing to sell, disappear: they will smile at you.
From San Giovenale, perhaps the most evocative church in the city, in the medieval quarter, where the sun disappears behind the Colonnacce.
Land that was a land of people, of small houses, of farmers and craftsmen.
There is still my laboratory, open more at night than during the day.
because ceramics is female, and at night it is better.
Just like Paolo Conte's “women in winter”, there is more time and attention, there is more soul.
There is a story to tell.
The story of a love and its consequences.
There is a colour, the identity color of Orvieto's ceramic tradition, a secret idea of water between green and blue which, not being afraid of fire, becomes care, protection and safety.
In the end it is the same story, and the same water, down at the bottom of the
Well of San Patrizio.
